abstract

conclusions our results show that oxidative stress could play an important role in male infertility as well as in sperm motility and sperm morphology. patients and methods this case control study was conducted using 35 men with idiopathic infertility and 34 men with proven fertility. seminal plasma tac and mda were measured by ferric reducing ability of plasma (frap) and thiobarbituric acid (tba) reaction methods, respectively. results seminal tac levels were significantly lower and seminal mda levels were significantly higher in men with idiopathic infertility than in fertile men (p < 0.0001 and p = 0.004, respectively). a positive correlation was shown between sperm motility, sperm morphology, and tac levels in men with idiopathic infertility (p = 0.002 and p = 0.002, respectively). in addition, there was a correlation between sperm motility and tac levels in fertile men (p = 0.005). there was no correlation between sperm count and tac levels in either men with idiopathic infertility or in fertile men. negative correlations were observed between mda levels and sperm motility, morphology, and sperm count only in men with idiopathic infertility (p = 0.003, p = 0.001, and p = 0.006, respectively). objectives the aim of the present study was to determine the correlation between total antioxidant capacity (tac) and malondialdehyde (mda) as markers of oxidative stress in relation to idiopathic male infertility and sperm parameters. background oxidative stress is the result of an imbalance between the production and scavenging of reactive oxygen species (ros). recently, oxidative stress has been introduced as a major cause of male infertility.

association of seminal plasma total antioxidant capacity and malondialdehyde levels with sperm parameters in infertile men with varicocele

conclusions our findings indicated that oxidative stress could play an essential role in male infertility caused by varicocele and may impair spermatogenesis leading to infertility. objectives in the current study, we aimed to assess the tac (total antioxidant capacity) and mda (malondialdehyde) as stress oxidative markers in infertile men with varicocele and fertile men, and moreover, their co...

P-79: The Correlation between Nitric Oxide Levels in Seminal Plasma with Human Sperm Parameters

Background: Defective sperm quality is a significant cause of infertility in men. It is known that nitric oxide (NO) is a highly reactive free radical gas which has a dual function, being both a cytotoxic and necessary molecule for normal sperm production. Materials and Methods: To investigate correlation between NO levels with sperm parameters, a case-control study were designed with total of ...

Effect of Cigarette Smoking on Sperm Parameters in Men With Idiopathic Infertility

Background: Several studies have reported that cigarette smoking affects sperm parameters, especially semen quality, but their results are contradictory.  Objective: This retrospective study aims to evaluate the relationship of sperm parameters with smoking in men with idiopathic infertility.  Materials and Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on 1744 infertile men with at least on...

Antioxidant levels in blood and seminal plasma and their impact on sperm parameters in infertile men.

Excess reactive oxygen species (ROS) beyond the scavenging capacity of antioxidants leads to DNA damage and oxidation of lipoprotein components at the cellular and subcellular level. The oxidative stress (OS) adversely affects sperm function by altering membrane fluidity, permeability and impairs sperm functional competence. In the present study, the OS status in seminal plasma and blood serum ...

nitric oxide levels and total antioxidant capacity in the seminal plasma of infertile smoking men

objective: cigarette is a rich source of oxidants and reactive nitrogen species. nitric oxide (no) in high concentration has deleterious effects on human sperm function. antioxidant defense system in seminal plasma protects spermatozoa from the attack of reactive oxygen metabolites. the purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between cigarette smoking with the no levels and the t...
